Pesticides used to protect fields from pests and pathogens remain in the soil for decades. This conclusion was reached by scientists from the Department of Environmental Science and Technology of the American Chemical Society (ACS). The study was conducted on 100 Swiss farms to determine the amount of pesticides in the soil, as well as their impact on soil health. It is possible that the study was conducted not only on farms with traditional tillage technology that use plant protection products, but also on farms that have specialized directly in organic production for more than twenty years. The researchers measured the concentration of 46 compounds that characterize the quality standards of the soil surface, which are regularly used to control insects, fungal diseases and weeds.: In addition, the working group noted low levels of beneficial bacteria in fields where plant protection products are constantly used. Based on the data, the researchers concluded that the use of synthetic chemicals deteriorates the health of the soil և has a cumulative property.
